Overview

Therapies for some ear and neurological diseases that cause hearing loss have not seen significant advancement in decades. The Hearing Science Accelerator (HSA) is a program spearheaded by the House Institute that calls on experts from around the world both inside and outside the medical community to focus on a specific disease in a formal academic setting. The inaugural HSA symposium will focus on the treatment of Vestibular Schwannomas. Participants will review the current state of available treatments, as well as deliver a variety of suggestions on how we can accelerate the science of that disease. The Hearing Science Accelerators will address several different diseases. Each HSA project will focus on specific clinical priorities as well as defining gaps in knowledge and research that hinder the implementation of new treatment modalities for the disease in question and identify the necessary steps to address them. A white paper that summarizes the findings and recommendations will be produced after the conclusion of the symposium to guide future research efforts and define funding opportunities.
